North Branch Instruments: Instruments

This was a collaboration effort between myself (Mike Ricciarelli aka North Branch Instruments) and Pete Langdell (Rigel Instruments) as we take an ailing 1968 Epiphone FT-30 "Caballero" guitar made at the Gibson Kalamazoo plant and convert it into essentially a wartime LG-2. The LG Series Gibsons maintain a desired and coveted small body which Gibson for whatever reason has yet to re-issue. The Epiphone FT-30 is effectively a Gibson LG-0 with the exception of the headstock style (which we did not alter). We removed the Mahogany top (with it's ladder bracing) and replaced it with a Spruce top with X-bracing and painstakingly re-created all of the war time details such as a vintage tobacco sunburst, back binding, 3 ply top binding, rectangular bridge and fire stripe pick guard.

Hey Mike,

About a month ago I purchased a bunch of Water Pillows from North Branch to put in my various instrument cases during the winter months. These very small and convenient humidifiers are really amazing. Unlike the sponge worms I have used in the past, Water Pillows seem to last for several weeks before needing a water re-charge. I keep 2 in my guitar cases and after a month they still are damp and effectively humidifying. They take up almost no space and do not leach water at all. Thanks for telling me about them. They are a great product and I would recommend them enthusiastically to anyone needing trouble free instrument humidification.
